Thomson Rail Equipment Ltd provides on-site training for their customers when purchasing equipment and machinery. David Thomson, “We have always seen training as ‘part of the package’, a sweetener to a sale as it were. Initially we contacted K2 Horizons with a view to putting our training facility on a more professional footing in order to be able to offer a legitimate qualification to our customers.”
Implementation
K2 Horizons met several times with the management team at Thomson Rail Equipment to get an understanding of the business and its objectives. This information, combined with our extensive experience of delivering qualifications, assessment and verification enabled us to research not only the options available, but ones that would fit in with the overall mission and values of the company.
We presented our research results and Thomson Rail Equipment decided upon the option of gaining accreditation for a qualification under the Customised Award Route with NCFE’s Awarding Body. This would enable them to offer a course specifically designed for the rail industry and provide their customers with recognised certificates of achievement from a national awarding body.
Outcome
Our familiarity with compliance with audit requirements enabled us to devise a detailed plan of the stages required to gain accreditation of this programme through our own NCFE Centre, providing a qualification framework and identifying the inputs required by both ourselves and our client company, including streamlined, consistent processes and procedures. The next stage will be implementation of the plan to fit in with other objectives within the company ….. so watch this space!
